ACTIVE ALLEY FLOORING
Magellan® is the first rubber active alley flooring combining the advantages of animals walking on rubber with better hoof and environmental health.
Evacuation is continuous via specially designed grooves with the added benefit of less ammonia generation.
Magellan® Groove combines rubber fingers added to a bladed scraper. The scraper passes every 90 minutes to evacuate excrement.
This system assures the automatic evacuation of manure. Magellan Groove is also much thicker than ordinary alley flooring. The animals’ hooves are elevated above the excreted fluids keeping them drier, harder and more resistant to new infections.
This process solves one of the most important problems of traditional alley flooring as the animal’s hoof is elevated above the excreta fluids.
Ammonia reduction is key as it is the cause of respiratory intoxication and can accelerate the development of some hoof pathologies.
Synthesizing of ammonia in the alleys is reduced and/or eliminated thereby helping to reduce the proliferation of certain diseases such as « Mortellaro disease ».
Given that reproduction and hoof problems are often directly related, it is vital to control hoof problems which have become a leading reason for culling cows prior to reproduction. Safe and comfortable cow traffic as well as a healthy environment are key to animal longevity, profitability and a dairyman’s peace of mind.
THANKS TO THIS SYSTEM
- Cows’ hooves stay above liquids making hooves drier, harder and healthier.
- Movement on flexible rubber protects joints.
- Bacteriological problems such as digital dermatitis also called (Mortellaro’s disease) can be better controlled.
- Reduced ammonia generation (already strictly regulated in certain countries).
